Tony Chotem Biography

Tony Chotem studied classical and jazz guitar in Montreal at McGill and Concordia universities. While in Montreal, he worked as a free-lance instrumentalist and guitar instructor and recorded for the CBC and with the Quebec based rock group, Harmonium. In 1989, Tony relocated to Vancouver, BC where he has been working as an instrumentalist, composer, producer, and guitar instructor. Tony performs as a soloist, as well as, with his Duo Orpheus flute and guitar duo, and with his Double Helix jazz ensemble. His performances include recitals, festivals, clubs and restaurants, as well as, many weddings and corporate events.

In 2003, Tony arranged, produced and engineered Nancy J. Lilley’s lullaby CD, A Whisper and a Sigh. In 2007, he co-composed, produced and engineered his jazz CD, Phoenix Rising, with his jazz ensemble Double Helix. In 2008, he arranged, produced and engineered his flute and guitar Christmas CD, Moon of Winter. In 2010, he composed and recorded the soundtrack for Nancy J. Lilley’s award winning children’s short film, Tattle Tale Hero. In 2022, Tony and his brother, Peter, completed and released their second album of original jazz compositions, In a Dream.
